So, I had approximately 7 years of mystery ER visits (averaging every 1.5 years) before my Big One (which sounds very similar to yours) where I'd start writhing in pain, throwing up,and reporting that I felt like my bowel just stopped....and then several hours later, I'd pass gas, start having bowel sounds, the swelling would go down and I'd be fine again. Multiple CT scans, some showing ascites and swollen small bowel, but no reason for either. But, I just had the Big One. Where it got worse and worse and worse....and now I too sport the 10 inch scar. So, how have you all dared in the years following? I just had my follow-up and felt truly sobered at the news that the abdominal surgery will likely cause adhesions, which could, in turn, result in new blockages. I'm hoping it's just a possibility without much probability but have any of you all dealt with subsequent issues from adhesions? Worst pain of my life. My story is very similar and I made multiple trips to the ER and no one could figure out what was wrong. It took 5 days from start of pain to emergency laparoscopic surgery which was basically to try and figure out what was going on. I'm not happy it happened to you but it makes me feel better to hear of someone else who has gone through it. You are right, I'm starting to get out for short walks, and trying hard to not use my abs much to avoid an incisional hernia. The races you have done since your surgery, and the fact that you've had no further problems, has uplifted my mood more than 100 well meaning friends who have never experienced this before. There's something about sharing this with someone who has been there. Thank you! -SusanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3386444282041076441.post-657040625673089142013-11-25T08:38:48.329-08:002013-11-25T08:38:48.329-08:00Ugh, let me start by saying I'm really sorry y...Ugh, let me start by saying I'm really sorry you had to go through that. If it was like mine, you just found a whole new definition of pain that I'm sure you wish you didn't have.

Rest assured, though, that if you are a good patient and do exactly what your Dr. says, you will bounce back quickly. I'm sure you are walking around the house now, and in another week you'll be outside for short walks. I did everything I was told and no more, because I didn't want to risk any more damage and I was cleared to start very gentle short runs at 4-weeks, though still no lifting. Then at 6-weeks I was cleared to start lifting and running harder.

Since my surgery in late February, I ran Miwok (about 10 weeks from surgery), then Bighorn in June, a marathon PR in July, and Wasatch in September. I haven't had any ill effects from it, and other than still being a few pounds down from my presurgery weight, everything is back to normal. I'd be willing to bet, that you'll be 100% by the time spring rolls around and you are ready to start hitting the trails hard again.

On the bright side, your legs are probably getting a much needed break, and if there's a good time of year to be laid up, the start of winter is probably it. Good luck with your recovery, and may you not have any setbacks.

-AdamBudduccihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16832864054228484737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3386444282041076441.post-8037298595116413042013-11-24T13:53:32.366-08:002013-11-24T13:53:32.366-08:00Wow...
